Mario Sicuranza is a Technologist at the Institute for High Performance Computing and Networking (ICAR) of the Italian National Research Council (CNR). He received his Master’s degree in Computer Engineering from the University of Naples “Federico II” and his PhD in Information Engineering from the University of Naples “Parthenope”. His research and technology transfer activities focus on the analysis, design, and development of healthcare information systems, with particular emphasis on digital health, data interoperability, health information standards, cybersecurity, secure data management, and the protection of sensitive healthcare data. His work addresses the design of reliable and secure digital health infrastructures, supporting the safe exchange, processing, and management of health information across interoperable systems. He has participated in and held scientific and technical responsibility roles in several national and European research projects, including initiatives related to the evolution of the Italian Electronic Health Record, Smart Bear, RIGOLETTO, and FOSSR. He is Head of the FHIR Italy Working Group (HL7 FHIR IT) and a member of the Technical Scientific Committee of HL7 Italy, contributing to the definition of standards, technical specifications, and Implementation Guides for healthcare data interoperability, with attention to security requirements, trustworthiness, and data protection aspects. He has also collaborated with institutional working groups coordinated by AgID, the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Economy and Finance, and the Department for Digital Transformation, supporting the evolution of the Italian Electronic Health Record and EHR/FSE 2.0. He has coordinated complex project and infrastructure activities, including WP7 “Network of Data Centers” within the FOSSR project, aimed at creating a distributed data center network to support research infrastructures, open science, secure data sharing, and resilient digital services. His experience includes the governance of data infrastructures and the coordination of technical activities related to interoperability, cybersecurity, and secure healthcare data exchange. He is the author of approximately 50 scientific publications and technical reports on software architectures, interoperability, information retrieval, cybersecurity, secure data management, and healthcare information systems.
