A high-performance computing infrastructure for scientific research

HERMES is ICAR’s high-performance computing system based on the BEN infrastructure, installed at the Naples site. It provides parallel computing resources, GPU accelerators and storage systems for scientific activities requiring substantial computational capacity.

The infrastructure supports HPC applications and accelerated workloads, providing a dedicated environment for the Institute’s research activities and scientific collaborations that require large-scale computing capabilities.

Resources integrated into HERMES

BEN

  • 73 IBM POWER9 nodes for parallel applications and high-performance scientific workloads.
  • Approximately 62 TB of RAM.
  • 1.6 PB of storage capacity distributed across SSD, NVMe and HDD systems.
  • 292 NVIDIA Tesla V100 GPUs, including configurations with 16 GB and 32 GB of memory.
  • A 100 Gb/s InfiniBand network provides high-bandwidth, low-latency data exchange between the infrastructure’s computing nodes.
