Workshop: “How Can Scientific Computing Help To Study Life Sciences?”

The workshop intends to promote and disseminate some of the activities carried out and in progress at the ICAR-CNR Research Unit of INdAM, highlighting the role of mathematicians and computer scientists in solving application problems.The focus is on computational biology, bioinformatics, and biomedicine applications, which are particularly compelling challenges for various aspects, given the amount of data produced, the speed in their production, the complexity of the algorithms for their processing, the issues of security and privacy protection of the data involved, as well as their role in studying the understanding and treatment of important diseases. To underline the concrete contribution made, the reference applications have been chosen among those that are the subject of scientific collaborations of the RU with other research institutes and bodies in the reference sector.Mathematicians, computer scientists, biologists, physicists, and bioinformaticians will illustrate the fundamental elements of their own discipline that come into play in the research object of the collaboration. Some research results, in the form of elements of scientific software, available to the scientific community and currently in use in the reference contexts, will also be illustrated.The event is aimed at the scientific community as a whole: to researchers, with the aim of illustrating the problems faced and publicizing the results obtained, so as to also stimulate new collaborations, and to trainees (fellows, doctoral students, postgraduate students), with the aim of being introduced to the research products and the problems related to their implementation.
