The research and technological development activities, carried out through participation in numerous European, national, and regional industrial research and experimental development projects, are placed in the field of information processing systems, with significant applications in various domains with particular reference to the digital health sector. The main topics of interest concern software architectures and information management to promote interoperability between heterogeneous information systems in compliance with the technical standards of the sector and the regulations for information security and privacy protection, the organization of structured and unstructured data through big data analytics approaches, and research infrastructures. Since 2009, he has actively participated in the institutional tables on the Electronic Health Record for the implementation of regulations, regarding the formalization of business processes, technical rules for the interoperability of IT platforms, and data representation methods. He is a co-author of over 100 scientific articles and technical reports published in international and national journals, conference proceedings, books, and institutional series. He is a reviewer of European and national research projects, a member of editorial and program committees of several international journals, conferences, and workshops and has been co-supervisor of several degree theses. Since 2012, he has been a contract professor of computer science in Engineering Degree Courses at the University of Naples “Federico II”. He is a member of the Board of Directors of HL7 Italy, of the UNI Control Room on Digitalization, of the UNINFO Commission on Medical Informatics, co-founder of the Italian Scientific Society of Biomedical Informatics, and has been a member of the Board of Directors of the Italian Association of Telemedicine and Medical Informatics.
