Access to the infrastructure
Apollo is ICAR’s distributed computing system. It integrates hardware resources, software platforms and technical expertise available across the Institute’s sites into a shared, multiservice infrastructure.
The computing resources developed through FOSSR, H2IOSC and SoBigData retain their specific tools and access procedures. Resource eligibility, allocation and usage priorities follow the policies established by the managers of the respective projects.
Depending on the requested resource and the user’s affiliation, access may therefore require registration through a project platform or completion of ICAR’s internal accreditation procedure.

Towards a single access point
ICAR is developing higher-level services designed to provide shared access to the hardware and software capabilities currently distributed across the different infrastructure components.
The objective is to establish a single access point to Apollo services, simplifying user accreditation, service selection and access to computing, artificial intelligence, storage and research environments.
During this transition, the existing project-specific procedures will remain available and will progressively integrate with the common access services.
User support
ICAR’s technical staff provide support for:
- identifying the most appropriate resources and services;
- user accreditation and access procedures;
- configuring computing and research environments;
- submitting and running computational workloads;
- accessing storage services and managing research data;
- reporting technical problems.
Access requests are assessed according to resource availability, the applicable project policies and the technical requirements of the proposed activity.
