UISH – Urban Intelligence Science Hub For City Network

The project, financed by the Territorial Cohesion Agency, intends to develop an innovative concept of digital analysis of complex urban realities, aimed at decision-making support for their planning and management. The digital system combines the main physical subsystems of the city (mobility, distribution of services, waste collection, economic, social, cultural and environmental systems, etc.) with as many simulators, based on artificial intelligence models, which interact with each other in digital world, and which make up a digital twin of the city itself, continuously learning from multiple sensory sources and updating itself to represent the state of the physical city in real time. All data acquired from municipal databases, external databases, IoT devices, etc. are collected in a suitably designed data lake. The strategy followed by the project is based on a modular approach: the digital city model can in fact be developed initially on a limited part of the city (a neighbourhood, for example) and for a small number of subsystems (mobility and air pollution, for example), greatly reducing the complexity of the problem and ensuring the development of a simple but functional model. The model can then be developed by extending the territory covered or by increasing the number of subsystems or their interactions, gradually. This project will be applied to a portion of the City of Catania.
