Project STRIVE – le Scienze per le TRansizioni Industriale, Verde ed Energetica, Subproject URAN – Urban Intelligence: Advanced approaches for transitions in urban environments.

The pursuit of green and energy transition goals finds the urban environment as one of its main challenges. Integrated and complex cities are becoming increasingly energy voracious and environmentally cumbersome entities. In this context, the discipline that is being consolidated under the name Urban Intelligence draws on the contribution of different methodological approaches and is based on a strong interaction between the physical/engineering sciences and the social sciences.

Urban Intelligence, in the context of the URAN subproject, can be considered to consist of two basic
ingredients: data and algorithms. Both of these ingredients are constantly evolving: the URAN subproject
aims precisely to harness participants' expertise to propose methodological approaches to facilitate the
green and digital transition of cities. It consists of ten workpackages, covered by four institutes that have
identified a set of scientific objectives that advance the state of the art. The proposed activities may employ
the results of already active projects as a source of use cases. The expected outcome of the subproject is a
set of new methods that can be nimbly translated into services for the city, exhaustively tested on real or
realistic use cases, and based on a mix of technological and methodological expertise placed at the frontier
of scientific research.
