Ester Zumpano is an Associate Professor of Computer Engineering at the Department of Computer Engineering, Modeling, Electronics, and Systems Engineering (DIMES) at the University of Calabria. She obtained the National Scientific Qualification as Full Professor in the fields ING-INF/05 and 01/B1 in 2023. She earned her Ph.D. in Systems and Computer Engineering at the University of Calabria in 2003. Her research areas include: Logic Programming, Deductive Databases, Data Integration Techniques, View Updates, Health Information Systems, Machine Learning, and Deep Learning.

The results of her research have been published in more than 150 articles in international scientific journals and national and international conference proceedings. She has contributed to the organization of numerous international conferences and is a member of the editorial board of several leading international scientific journals. Since 2007, she has been a member of the Steering Committee of the European Conference on Advances in Databases and Information Systems (ADBIS).

She is involved in numerous research projects at the international, national, and local levels, both as a project member and as a project leader. She has served as an editor and guest editor for various scientific journals and has participated as a program chair in several international conferences.

She is a founding member of ITACA S.r.l., a spin-off of the University of Calabria and the University of Salento.
Ester Zumpano is a co-author with ICAR-CNR researchers in several significant scientific publications and collaborates with the ICAR-CNR researchers of the Social and Complex Data Intelligence (SCDI) research group.
