PREMIO: Precision Medine Infrastructure For Oncology

The Precision Medicine Infrastructure for Oncology (PREMIO) has as main objective to perform an infrastructure supporting the research path entirely dedicated to Personalized and Precision Medicine, immediately at the forefront of international research. The Infrastructure will be supported by the creation of a network of territorial bio-banks that, covering all the regional territory strategically, will allow the optimal collection of biological samples (biological tissues and fluids) from cancer and non-cancer patients, related to the various health facilities in the Region.
Personal data and territorial origin, and clinical-pathological data as well as the in situ and molecular data will be shared through the creation of a ITC platform with the final purpose of developing innovative algorithms of Artificial Intelligence, identifying multivariate predictive models for the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of oncological diseases.
In detail the innovative services that the infrastructure aims to develop can be summarized as follows:

  • Provision of high quality biological samples, standardizing appropriately the entire collection, crio-conservation and transfer path within the Network.
  • Preparation of tissue specimens for the in situ analysis (IHC, ISH, CISH, FISH) or performing the above analysis on the selected samples types for data validation. In this context it will also be possible to share the digital images attesting the morphological characteristics of the tissue samples and the results of in situ analysis.
  • Genetic characterization of biological samples, both for those from oncologic patients (for the definition of a ” gene signature”), for “at risk” subjects and for those from “high impact” environmental areas (for the identification of markers of susceptibility).
  • Proteomic / metabolomic characterization of biological samples for the identification of potential proteomic / metabolomic alterations in tumor cells and the consequent identification of new biomarkers that can also be used for early diagnosis on biological fluids (blood, urine, saliva, etc).
  • Development of cell models, particularly of hepatocytes from neoplastic samples, for the evaluation of new compounds for clinical development.
  • Development and standardization of diagnostic kits based on molecular biology.
  • Production of custom case series and statistics, which can also provide indication on geographic location (geo-localization) and of Artificial Intelligence algorithms, both shared with the BBMRI national node.
