Technological research topics and activities
The technological research activities, developed through participation in numerous European, national, and regional industrial research and experimental development projects, are placed in the field of information systems, with particular reference to the e-health sector. The main topics of interest concern the design and validation of innovative software architectures and information management techniques for the interoperability among heterogeneous systems in compliance with standards and regulations for IT security and privacy protection. Since 2009, he is actively involved in the institutional Tables on the Electronic Health Record, while since 2014 he collaborates with the Agency for Digital Italy for the implementation of the related regulations, with reference to the formalization of business processes, technical rules for interoperability of IT platforms and data representation methods.
He is co-author of over 100 scientific papers and technical reports published in international and national journals, conference proceedings, books, and series. He is a member of editorial boards and program committees of several international journals, conferences and workshops and has been co-supervisor of numerous degree theses. Since 2012, he is an adjunct professor at the University of Naples Federico II. He is a member of the Boards of Directors of HL7 Italy and of the Italian Association of Telemedicine and Medical Informatics (@ITIM), a member of the Steering Committee on Digitization of UNI, a member of the UNINFO Commission of Medical Informatics, and a co-founder of the Italian Scientific Society of Biomedical Informatics (SIBIM).

He is a reviewer of European and national research projects, a member of editorial and program committees of several international journals, conferences and workshops, and has been co-supervisor of several University theses. Since 2012, he has been a contract professor of computer science in Engineering Degree Courses at the University of Naples “Federico II”. He is a member of the Board of Directors of HL7 Italia, of the Control Room on Digitization of UNI, of the UNINFO Commission of Medical Informatics, co-founder of the Italian Scientific Society of Biomedical Informatics and has been a member of the Board of Directors of the Italian Association of Telemedicine and Medical Informatics.
