The Nettab Workshop will take place for the first time in Palermo, at the headquarters of the CNR (National Research Council) in via Ugo La Malfa, 153, from 16 to 18 October 2017.
The event is organized by several international partners, including the ICAR-CNR under the patronage of the City of Palermo and Gesap. The Mayor Leoluca Orlando will open the works at 2.30 pm, welcoming scientists from all over the world. The main objective is to study methods, tools, and platforms for personalized medicine, in the context of “big data”.
The development of new techniques for the analysis of “big data” and the introduction of platforms suitable for data integration, transformation and sharing are the necessary tools for defining personalized diagnostic, prognostic and therapeutic guides and models that could be adopted to improve the life, treatment, and care of patients.
Personalized medicine aims to combine heterogeneous data collected from different sources, such as genetic heritage, lifestyle and environmental context, to promote understanding, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases and to ensure the provision of appropriate therapies.
Over the last decade, so much effort has been spent to collect and exploit so-called “large data”, extracted from clinical data, as well as electronic health records and mobile or portable devices. Today, an open challenge in personalized medicine goes beyond the limits provided by some technical, ethical and political barriers, to ensure an efficient and reliable use of these data in medical practice.
The NETTAB workshop will offer participants, scholars, and scientists the opportunity to introduce and discuss new methods, theoretical approaches, algorithms, tools and digital platforms.
