Ciro Mennella is a fixed-term researcher at ICAR-CNR Institute engaged within the Language and Knowledge Engineering (LKE) and Human-Robot Interaction research groups. He obtained his Master’s degree in Rehabilitation Sciences from Vita-Salute San Raffaele University in Milan in 2019, where his thesis focused on identifying behavioral biomarkers to predict cognitive health status in patients with psychiatric disorders. In 2020, he pursued further specialization with a Master’s Course in Digital and Advanced Technologies for Rehabilitation Sciences at Pisa University.

Ciro’s research career began in 2020 with a two-year research fellowship at the IBF-CNR Institute, where he worked on medical device validation and analysis using quantitative methods based on machine learning. In 2021, he earned a Ph.D. scholarship for the National Doctorate in Artificial Intelligence for Health and Life Sciences (XXXVII Cycle) at Campus Bio-Medico University, in collaboration with ICAR-CNR. Currently, Ciro is involved in the PNRR Project FAIR Spoke 3, focused on topics related to resilient AI systems.

His work spans a wide range of multidisciplinary research projects at the intersection of engineering and healthcare sciences. Ciro’s research interests include precision and predictive medicine, artificial intelligence, and cyber-physical systems for healthcare. His expertise focuses on computer vision and machine learning, particularly in the predictive diagnosis and risk stratification of diseases, and in developing AI-driven techniques to optimize clinical practice through assistive and monitoring systems. He is also deeply involved in validating and verifying digital health technologies, with a strong interest in the ethical implications of AI in healthcare.

Ciro regularly publishes his findings in peer-reviewed international journals, contributing to research advancements in AI systems within the healthcare field. He also serves as a reviewer for esteemed journals in computational science and healthcare, playing an active role in the scientific community. Additionally, Ciro is a contracted lecturer at eCampus University, teaching research methodology in medical sciences, and collaborates with ARTES 4.0 (Advanced Robotics and Enabling Digital Technologies & Systems 4.0) on the scientific and technical verification of national research projects, focusing on innovation and technology transfer.

Driven by a passion for digital health, telemedicine, and artificial intelligence themes, Ciro’s research aims to revolutionize healthcare by leveraging new technologies to democratize access to care. He is particularly focused on leveraging AI and advanced technologies to make healthcare delivery more accessible and efficient, with the aim of ensuring that, in the future, high-quality care is available to low-income individuals and those living in remote areas. His pioneering research seeks to revolutionize healthcare systems, making them more inclusive and responsive to people’s needs.
