A Memorandum of Understanding between the National Research Council of Italy (CNR) and the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre (JRC) reinforces cooperation in cybersecurity and trustworthy digital technologies.

The Joint Research Centre (JRC) of the European Commission and the National Research Council of Italy (CNR) have formalised their collaboration through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at strengthening joint research and innovation activities in the field of digital security.

The agreement reinforces the commitment of both institutions to protecting data, devices, networks and digital services. By fostering closer cooperation, the initiative will contribute to the development of a safer, more resilient and trustworthy European digital ecosystem, supporting the European Union’s strategic objectives for digital transformation and technological sovereignty.

Among the participants in the initiative was Fabio Martinelli, Director of the Institute ICAR-CNR, whose involvement highlights the Institute’s contribution to European research and innovation efforts in cybersecurity, trustworthy artificial intelligence and emerging digital technologies.

The Memorandum represents an important step toward strengthening synergies between the Italian research system and European institutions, promoting the exchange of expertise, research infrastructures and scientific knowledge to address current and future digital security challenges.
