ICAR-CNR At The IEEE Smart World Congress 2026

From September 7 to 11, 2026, the IEEE Smart World Congress 2026 (IEEE SWC 2026) was held at the University of Calabria in Rende, Italy. The international scientific event focused on intelligent and connected technologies and systems, bringing together researchers, professionals, and experts from different countries. The congress addressed topics including Artificial Intelligence, Internet of Things, Edge Computing, Digital Twin, Metaverse, cybersecurity, and smart environments.

ICAR-CNR played a significant role in both the organization and the scientific program of the event. Antonio Guerrieri served as General Chair of the IEEE International Conference on Metaverse 2026 (IEEE METAVERSE 2026) and as Finance Chair of the entire IEEE Smart World Congress 2026. Franco Cicirelli served as Technical Program Chair of IEEE METAVERSE 2026, Andrea Vinci as Technical Program Chair of IEEE ScalCom 2026, and Carmela Comito as Publicity Chair of IEEE UIC 2026, while Md Babul Islam was a member of the Local Organizing Committee. Several ICAR-CNR researchers were also involved in Technical Program Committees, review activities, and the chairing of technical sessions. From a scientific perspective, the Institute contributed six scientific papers to the IEEE Smart World Congress 2026 program.

The five-day congress provided an important opportunity for discussion, collaboration, and exchange of ideas among the scientific community, industry representatives, and young researchers, highlighting the strongly interdisciplinary nature of research activities in the field of Smart Worlds.
