Maria Frucci received the doctoral degree "cum laude" in Physics from the University “Federico II” of Naples, Italy, in 1983. In the period 1984-1987 she worked at the Centre for Informatics and Industrial Automation Research, Portici, Naples, Italy, before as research fellow (1984-1985) and then, as a senior researcher. Particularly, she was active in the area of Natural Language, Expert Systems and Shape Analysis. From 1988 to 2014, she worked as researcher to the Institute of Cybernetics “E. Caianiello” (ICIB) of the National Research Council of Italy, Naples. Since 2003 she is a Senior Researcher. In 2014, she moved to the Institute for High-Performance Computing and Networking (ICAR), Naples Branch, of the National Research Council of Italy, Naples. From 1999 to 2005 she has been lecturer for the Computer Science degree course of the University “Federico II” of Naples, teaching algorithms and data structures. From 2008 to 2012, she was member of the Governing Board of the Italian Group of Italian Researchers in Pattern Recognition (GIRPR). M. Frucci has been involved as Local Committee Member, Publicity Chair, Local Chair, Program Chair and General Chair in the organization of several international/national conferences and has been member of Steering Committee and Program Committee for many international conferences. She is also a reviewer for a number of international journals in the field of Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition. She has published about 90 papers on different topics such as Natural Language, Perception, Image Processing and Pattern Recognition. She has been supervisor of several degree theses and guest editor of books/special issues of international journals. Her research activity is mainly in the field of Image Processing, Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition. Her main interests are Digital Topology and Geometry, Distance Transformation and Applications, Representation Systems, Shape Decomposition and Description, Fingerprints Analysis, Multiresolution, Segmentation, Color Image Processing, Biometrics and Medical Imaging.
